This male nude drawing is one of my first pencil drawings and it was made on Fabriano semi-rough paper.
I began applying a layer of 4H sharp pencil with the same regular stroke.
I went on drawing with 2H and H pencils in the darker parts of the body.
Then I began adding darker tones using pencils from HB to 9B, of course soft pencils have a darker sign in comparison with hard pencils, sharp pencils render smooth textures and flat pointed pencils are right for rough textures.
During this process I tried to limit the use of the eraser as much as possible because it can spoil the grain of the paper.
One of my favourite parts of this work is the hand, I think it looks rather realistic, it was made with different shades of graphite watching carefully volumes and shapes.
For the background I used mostly a 9B pencil with a heavier pressure because I wanted to create a strong contrast between the darkness of the background and the light of the male nude figure.
The nude male pencil drawings are a right balance of darkness and light and this work has been a good exercise.
