Female nude drawing

I enjoyed doing this female nude drawing because it was inspired by the work of Prud'hon, a French Romantic painter and draughtsman of 19th-century.

I drew inspiration from his work but I tried to transform it according to my mood.

Drawing female nude is different compared to male nudes, the light runs without strong contrasts, the female body is soft and the light follows its gentle shapes.

I focused on the light and dark values on the surface of the body and began applying a layer of a hard pencil such as 4H in regular strokes.

Then I chose softer pencils such as 2H and H and drew the darker areas.

I continued applying other layers of B, 2B, 3B and so on, until I reached the right dark tone.

I did not shade with a blending stump. For shading I just applied different tones of graphite.

Female figure drawing is a good exercise to practice shading and blending with pencils.

Using sharp points makes the textures smoother - the flater the point is, the rougher the texture.

I sprayed the work with a fixative.
